Round 2 Game Day Roundup V Collingullie

FOOTBALL

It was the ANZAC weekend of footy, and weren’t we treated to some brilliant football and netball over the 3 days.

Saturday at Robbo saw the Under 17’s and Reserves battle out it against Gullie who are always up and about on this special occasion.

The day started with Col and Boog’s boys handing Gullie 45 point lesson in a fine display of teamwork. Jenkins put his hand up for senior consideration again with 7 snags and loads of leather around the ground. Young Wadley and Fraser Yates worked their rings of off like and old tap and drip fed the forward line all day. Will Carrol and Burmeister are the others to get a mention. Solid win boys.

The Magoos came out of the blocks like Usain Bolt, going into the first term with a 4.2 to ZIP opening term which really set it up for a WIN. Held goalless by the Demons in the second term saw the game level up at halftime but in the end, a hard fought 16 pint win sees the boys sitting on top of the ladder early on. Nug Nug turned the clock back with 3 large ones, Lardy’s odds have come in for the B & F with another lesson for the younger boys, Cookey threw his “weight” around and was named BOG – special mention to one N.COOKE who celebrated his 100th game for the club on the day. , Congrats from all the den. Beardy showed why he was emergency for the late time slot, Lach Gurkin played out of his skin also.

Monday ( ANZAC DAY ) had the match of the round with the seniors taking on the Demons who have had the wood on us on this day for the past few years. Well the chicken went BANG! in the first term a 6.5 to 3.00 goals saw a handy lead to the Tiger brigade and a start supporters would not be used to. Shauny Flan had it dead set on a string all day and teared em apart early. Johnny Buck slotted a lazy 6 Banga’s for the day. Rob Toughey chimed in with 2 straight ones !!! Lahn Shep was as busy as a dung beetle at the sewage works. Coach Campbell ran all day, Patty O’Connell was unstoppable at times and Gayns found the space when he needed to. All in all a team effort on the day as we ran out 34 point winners in the end.

Today we up against the undefeated Goannas who are well and truly up and about, A good test for all grades early in round 1. Carn the Tiges.

NETBALL

The ANZAC weekend saw some mixed results for our netballers.

The under 17’s lost 23-17 being outplayed in the centre court but putting together some good bursts of play lead by Emma van der Rijt.

C grade came home with a win by 9 goals with Brittney Lee Bedford getting players player for the day demonstrating some great skills down the court.

It was a tight match played by B grade but unfortunately couldn’t quite close it out with some strong centre court play and Ellen Briggs being a strong contender never giving up. A reserve were on fire demonstrating a great team effort and getting to a good lead in the first quarter setting themselves up for the remainder of the game winning convincingly 53-32. They were well lead by Maddi Kelly in the middle with a good connection to the shooters in the circle. A grade didn’t bring their best on Monday. A disappointing start with too many turnovers in the first quarter saw them chasing the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, eventually losing by 14 goals. Better players for the game were Bridget Webster and Jess Allen. The loss will provide good motivation for the remainder of the season and allowed them to play many combinations.
