Today we make our way over to Narrandera in what shapes as some defining games of Football and Netball.
Thanks to all those that travelled last weekend for what was a fantastic reunion. Many stories were told and as the years go by the loyalty and friendships shared by previous playing groups is something to envy. In this day and age it was amazing to hear how the 2007 team featured only one paid player, how determined the 97 team was to reclaim the flag and the efforts of some of the 1957 team 60 years later to return to Robertson Oval.
On the playing arena it was a mixed day for the boys. Our 17’s started really well but failed to capitalise early. After quarter time Mango turned it on to run away winners by 76 points. Goal kicking may be on the cards this week with a 2.13 day. Xav Lyons was stand out for Tigers while Jeffy Mannell and Fraser Yates battled hard all day.
Second Grade football after the Gold cup is always an interesting weekend but if can grab the four points on the way to Groovin the Moo you will take that and that’s about all that was achieved. Coen Brand kept the boys in the game until ¾ time before the boys decided to have a crack and run away 27 point winners. Coen Brand received the Cash Award and was well supported by Jake Hodge and Will Morley. Big Nug showed his 2007 team mates he should have been a forward with 5 Goals.
First grade was an interesting day and probably one we would rather forget. Highlights were few and far between but with a scoreless second half and to only go down by 8 points the positive is we can only get better. Freddy Lovell bounced back with plenty off the half back flank he was well supported by Dyl Morton and Harvey Daniher.
Plenty of hard work during the week and we won’t be far away and let’s start with 3 wins today before heading back to the Blamey for Dinner and awards.
Up the Tiges.
