FOOTBALL
The trip to Maher Oval came with expectation and the senior boys didn’t fail to deliver either. The Magoos had a fair win to boot as well with the Under 17’s having their colours lowered for the first time this season
The 17’s came up against a quality, talented side and showed signs the season is well and truly alive for the young tiger cubs. Going down by 7 points the boys clawed their way back from a slow start to outscore the DOGS 5 goals to 1 in the second half, a sign we got caught sleeping early. The usual suspects, Wadley, Schirmer and Mannell were flat stick all game. Col and Boog wouldn’t be disappointed with the loss, but not the effort with a few handy players out.
With a near full strength side in the main game saw the reserves turn out a quality side against our arch nemesis. And the boys delivered! Some notable performances from Sammy Schirmer who is doing his chances no harm of getting a promotion, Josh ‘ Lardy ‘ Larwood polled well again , Kurt Allen had his best game this year and Tom ‘Swifty’ Davis had more poise than a male ballerina. Yes Nug anther four snags to add to ya tally. (to slow for fullback we understand ! )
The Seniors came out with intent against a very young undermanned side and were ridiculous winners handing the ole’ Dogs’ a 200 plus point hiding. Johnny Buchanan and Rob Tuohey were standouts and should have been, both having a combined 30 shots on goal returning 20 fat ones between em’, a record now held at the club by this pair of pelicans. Jay Jay Jenkins got his first game at the late time slot and impressed with Carter Lovell also getting his first senior call up and had a ripper game himself. In a game that didn’t reach any great heights, Jake Gaynor was everywhere, Jess Manton showed his class and speed. Coach Campbell was his dour self and Jackpot Kelly took his own footy and didn’t share it most of the day! 214 POINT MARGIN in the end.
This week we take on the Eagles who have showed signs they are on the rise in all grades. Let’s get amongst it and take home the chocolates in all grades.
